The bull strains rightward, its forelegs raised, conveying vigorous movement. A club or the lion-skin drapes over Heracles' left arm in the field. The scene alludes to the seventh labour of Heracles and underscores the mythological heritage of Heraclea Pontica, the city founded under his patronage. The reverse legend in Greek is partially distributed around the upper field and in the exergue. |
