Aanvullende informatie

Macrinus held power for just fourteen months before his defeat at the Battle of Antioch in 218 AD — one of the shortest reigns of any emperor who died outside Rome. Provincial mints like Ephesus had barely enough time to establish a coherent coinage in his name, making civic bronzes of this type genuinely scarce against the broader backdrop of third-century provincial output. The ΑΝΔΡΟΚΛΟϹ inscription identifies the strategos responsible for the issue, a magistrate eponym whose term coincided almost exactly with the entirety of Macrinus's reign.
