| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus facing right, depicted from the rear, with the emperor's layered scale armour and paludamentum clearly rendered. The portrait is youthful in character, consistent with provincial civic coinage of the Severan period. The Greek imperial legend runs around the periphery within a beaded border. The bust type, with its three-quarter rear view, is a distinctive convention of eastern provincial workshop production. |

| Reverse description | Artemis Anaïtis standing facing, wearing a tall kalathos adorned with a long veil, her arms extended outward in a gesture of epiphany or benediction. To her side stands the emperor in military dress, his head turned to the left, holding a long sceptre in one hand and a patera extended over a lighted altar with the other. The scene reflects the syncretic cult of Artemis Anaïtis as practiced at Hypaepa, one of the principal centres of her worship in Lydia. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, names the two local magistrates responsible for the issue. |
