He holds a patera in one hand and a long sceptre in the other; a crescent appears behind his shoulders, the emblematic attribute of this Anatolian moon god. The reverse legend ΚΑΜΑΡΕΙΤΗϹ ΝΥϹΑΕΩΝ in Greek script identifies the deity's epithet and the issuing city. The composition is characteristic of the civic bronze coinage of Nysa in Lydia, honouring a locally venerated cult of Mên. |
