Her right hand rests upon a large round shield set on the ground at her side, while her left hand holds an upright spear. The figure is rendered in the provincial Greek tradition, with the encircling legend naming the local magistrate Claudius Pollio and the city of the Nysaeans distributed across the field. The reverse type reflects the civic pride of Nysa in its association with the goddess of wisdom and warfare. |
