| 背面描述 | The iconic cult statue of Artemis Ephesia stands facing, rendered in the rigid, hieratic style of the famous chryselephantine idol housed in the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. The goddess wears a tall kalathos (polos) upon her head and her body is enveloped in a tight sheath adorned with multiple rows of ovoid pendants, traditionally interpreted as eggs, breasts, or bull scrotums, symbolising fertility and abundance. Lateral supports, shown as pillars or herms, flank the figure between two stags that stand at her sides, alluding to her role as Mistress of Animals (Potnia Theron). In the upper left field a star appears, and in the upper right field a crescent moon, celestial attributes reinforcing Artemis's lunar and cosmic associations. The reverse legend ΑΡΤΕΜΙϹ ΕΦΕϹΙΑ encircles the design. |
