| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Mamaea, Augusta and mother of Severus Alexander, facing right, with diadem adorning her elaborately coiffed hair. The effigy is rendered in the typical provincial style of the Severan period, with visible drapery folds across the truncation. The encircling Greek legend identifies the empress by name and title. The coin shows heavy patination consistent with its provincial bronze fabric. |

| Reverse description | Cybele, the Anatolian mother goddess, enthroned and facing left, depicted in a frontal seated pose upon an ornate throne. In her extended right hand she holds a patera, while her left elbow rests upon a tympanum (ritual drum). At her feet, a lion reclines to the left, the goddess's customary attribute and sacred animal. The reverse type reflects the strong local veneration of Cybele in the Ionian region, and the encircling legend asserts the civic pride of Metropolis as a preeminent city of Ionia. |
