| Descrizione del dritto | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Maximus Caesar facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear, displaying the elaborate shoulderguards of the cuirass. The effigy is executed in the provincial Greek style characteristic of Ionian workshops of the Severan-Gordian transition period. A circular Greek legend surrounds the portrait in the field, naming the Caesar by his full titulature. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, as is typical of provincial bronze coinage of this era. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The enthroned figure of Cybele, the Phrygian mother goddess, is depicted seated facing left upon an ornate throne, holding a patera in her extended right hand and resting her left elbow upon a tympanum. A lion, the goddess's sacred animal, is shown recumbent at her feet to the left. The composition is a standard votive type attesting to the cult of Cybele at Metropolis in Ionia, rendered in the characteristic flat relief of provincial Asiatic bronze coinage. The encircling Greek legend names the local strategos Paulinus and the civic authority of the Metropolitans. |
