| Beschrijving keerzijde | Asclepius, the god of medicine, seated to the left upon a throne or chair set on a low podium, his body draped, extending his right hand forward holding a patera and clasping in his left the tall serpent-entwined staff (the kerykeion-like asklepian rod). The figure is rendered in a sturdy, provincial style with the serpent coiling prominently along the staff at his side. The circular Greek legend ΕΠΙ ϹΤΡ ΔΙΟΔΩΡΟΥ ΠΕΡΓΑΜΗΝΩΝ names the strategos Diodoros and identifies the issuing city of Pergamon, with the inscription continuing beneath the figure in the lower field. A dotted border frames the entire design. |
