She holds a ship's rudder in her right hand, resting it on the ground beside her, and cradles a cornucopia overflowing with fruits in her left arm, emblematic of abundance and good fortune. A Greek legend in two lines surrounds the figure, naming the grammateus Marcus Aurelius Aphrodisios as civic magistrate and identifying the issuing city of Tralles. The reverse legend reads ΕΠΙ ΓΡ Μ ΑΥΡ ΑΦΡΟΔΕΙϹΙΟΥ / ΤΡΑΛΛΙΑΝΩΝ, a formulaic magistrate attribution common to Lydian civic bronzes of the Valeriano-Gallienic period. The coin displays the typical broad, slightly convex flan and worn die workmanship characteristic of Trallian civic issues. |
