| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Otho facing right, rendered in typical provincial style. The Latin legend encircles the portrait, reading clockwise on the more common variety and counterclockwise on the extremely rare variant. The effigy displays the characteristic short-bearded portrait of Otho as known from his brief reign in AD 69. The flan is irregular, consistent with provincial hammered coinage of the period. |
