Otho's reign lasted 95 days. He died by suicide in April 69 AD after his forces were routed at the First Battle of Bedriacum, making any coinage struck in his name — particularly from the eastern provincial mints — exceptionally rare by simple arithmetic. This Antiochene bronze dates to the Year 117 of the Caesarean era (ΕΤ ΖΙΡ), issued under the legate Mucianus, who would soon play a pivotal role in delivering Syria's legions to Vespasian's cause during the same Year of the Four Emperors that made this coin possible in the first place.
