| Description du revers | The cult statue of Artemis Ephesia rendered standing facing, depicted in the canonical xoanon form with arms extended horizontally and adorned with the characteristic multiple rows of supports along the torso. The goddess is flanked on either side by a stag standing facing inward, referencing her role as Mistress of Animals. The reverse legend ϹΥΝΝΑΔΕΩΝ is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing civic authority of Synnada in Phrygia. The overall composition is a faithful rendering of the famous Ephesian Artemis cult image, widely reproduced on the provincial bronze coinage of Asia Minor during the Severan and Gordian periods. |
