| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted from the rear in the characteristic three-quarter view. The imperial effigy displays finely rendered drapery over the cuirass with visible paludamentum folds at the shoulder. The circular legend surrounding the bust reads ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ, affirming his full imperial titulature. The portrait exhibits the youthful features characteristic of Gordian III's provincial coinage, with a prominent laureate wreath rendered in the provincial die-cutting style. The overall execution is consistent with the civic bronze coinage struck at Synnada in Phrygia during the mid-third century AD. |

| Reverse description | The cult statue of Artemis Ephesia rendered standing facing, depicted in the canonical xoanon form with arms extended horizontally and adorned with the characteristic multiple rows of supports along the torso. The goddess is flanked on either side by a stag standing facing inward, referencing her role as Mistress of Animals. The reverse legend ϹΥΝΝΑΔΕΩΝ is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing civic authority of Synnada in Phrygia. The overall composition is a faithful rendering of the famous Ephesian Artemis cult image, widely reproduced on the provincial bronze coinage of Asia Minor during the Severan and Gordian periods. |
