Obverse description Diademed and draped bust of Julia Maesa facing right, rendered in the provincial Roman style characteristic of Syrian mint output under the Severan dynasty. The portrait displays the empress with her hair elaborately dressed beneath a diadem, with drapery visible at the truncation. The encircling Greek legend ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΜΕϹΑ ΑΥΓ identifies the subject as Augusta, running around the periphery of the field. The flan is irregular in shape, consistent with hammered provincial bronze coinage of the period.
