The legend ΘΥΑΤΕΙΡΗΝΩΝ curves around the periphery of the flan, identifying the issuing city of Thyatira. The portrait type blends imperial iconography with the syncretic Graeco-Egyptian cult of Sarapis, a practice well attested in the civic bronze coinage of Lydia during the Antonine and Severan periods. |
