| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Sarapis facing right, the portrait assimilated to that of the mature emperor Commodus. The deity wears the characteristic kalathos (modius) on his head, decorated with floral ornament. The legend ΘΥΑΤΕΙΡΗΝΩΝ curves around the periphery of the flan, identifying the issuing city of Thyatira. The portrait type blends imperial iconography with the syncretic Graeco-Egyptian cult of Sarapis, a practice well attested in the civic bronze coinage of Lydia during the Antonine and Severan periods. |
