Flanking the central eagle on either side are two legionary aquilae (military standards), creating a symmetrical heraldic composition. This reverse type is characteristic of civic bronzes from Creteia-Flaviopolis and alludes to Roman imperial and military iconography. The reverse legend is disposed around the field, identifying the issuing civic authority. |
