Obverse description Confronted jugate busts of Emperor Gordian III, laureate, draped and cuirassed, facing right and seen from the front, and the god Sarapis, draped and wearing a modius (kalathos) on his head, facing left; a cornucopia appears behind the bust of Sarapis. The imperial legend surrounds the busts along the periphery of the flan.

Reverse description A large eagle stands facing on a dotted exergual line, its head turned to the left and its wings spread and displayed; the eagle holds a wreath in its beak. The civic ethnic legend of Odessos is inscribed in the field to either side of the eagle, with the denomination mark Ε visible to the right. The reverse exhibits characteristic provincial die-work with a bold, deeply struck design.
