背面描述 Cybele, the Phrygian mother goddess closely venerated at Smyrna, is depicted enthroned and facing left, wearing a turreted crown (kalathos). She holds a patera in her extended right hand and rests her left arm upon a tympanum set beside her throne. The composition emphasises the city's proud neocorate status. The reverse legend, arranged around the field within a beaded border, identifies the issuing city and the presiding magistrate.

附加信息

Smyrna held the title of neokoros — official keeper of an imperial cult temple — multiple times over, and the legend's reference to three such grants (Γ ΝΕΩΚ) reflects a status the city lobbied for aggressively throughout the 3rd century. The magistrate named Sextus in the inscription places this among a dateable group within Gallienus's sole reign, after Valerian's capture by Shapur I at Edessa in 260 left his son ruling alone.

Provincial bronze of this period from the Smyrna conventus was not struck much longer — the civic coinage tradition in Asia Minor effectively collapsed before the end of Gallienus's reign.
