| Beschrijving keerzijde | The emperor Caracalla, in full military attire, is depicted on a rearing horse advancing to the right, his right arm raised and poised to deliver a spear thrust. Beneath the horse lies a fallen enemy, rendered prostrate on the ground at lower right, conveying the theme of imperial military triumph. The composition is dynamic and vigorous, consistent with provincial Moesian die-cutting of the Severan period. The reverse legend, distributed in two lines around the field, identifies the issuing legate and the city of Nicopolis ad Istrum. |
