Beneath the horse lies a fallen enemy, rendered prostrate on the ground at lower right, conveying the theme of imperial military triumph. The composition is dynamic and vigorous, consistent with provincial Moesian die-cutting of the Severan period. The reverse legend, distributed in two lines around the field, identifies the issuing legate and the city of Nicopolis ad Istrum. |
