Tabae was a Carian city of modest political standing, but its civic coinage under Severus Alexander reflects the broader Greek-speaking east's enthusiasm for local bronze issues during the Severan period — a practice tolerated and even encouraged by Rome as a pressure valve for regional monetary demand. The city sat in the Conventus of Alabanda, one of the judicial districts into which the Roman province of Asia was divided, and its coinages are correspondingly rare in any denomination.
