| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter view from the rear, with the paludamentum visible over the left shoulder. The emperor's youthful features are rendered in the provincial style characteristic of the Pergamene conventus. A circular Greek legend surrounds the effigy, partially incomplete or ligatured, reading ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΑΤΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟ, abbreviated for Autokrator Kaisar Marcus Antonius Gordianus. The flan is irregular, as is typical of civic bronze coinage struck in Asia Minor during the third century AD. |
