| Reverse description | Tyche, the personification of Fortune and civic deity of Sardes, stands facing left in full figure, rendered in a dignified classical pose. She holds a ship's rudder in her right hand, symbolising guidance and good fortune, and a cornucopia in her left, emblematic of abundance and prosperity. At her feet rests a wheel, an additional attribute reinforcing the iconography of Fortune. The encircling Greek legend ϹΑΡΔΙΑΝΩΝ Β ΝΕΩΚΟΡΩΝ proudly proclaims the city's twice-granted honour of neocorate, attesting to the privileged status of Sardes within the Roman provincial cult. |
