Parium, the old Milesian colony on the southern Marmara shore, retained its colonial identity stubbornly into the Imperial period — its bronze issues under Gallienus carry the COL(onia) IVL(ia) AVG(usta) PAR(ium) formula, advertising a Roman pedigree stretching back to the Caesarian or Augustan refoundation. The city continued striking autonomous civic bronzes well into the sole reign, even as the broader Roman monetary system fractured catastrophically following the capture of Valerian at Carrhae in 260 AD.

Provincial bronze from Parium in this period is genuinely scarce in the market.
