Parium, the old Milesian colony on the southern Marmara shore, retained its colonial identity stubbornly into the Imperial period — its bronze issues under Gallienus carry the COL(onia) IVL(ia) AVG(usta) PAR(ium) formula, advertising a Roman pedigree stretching back to the Caesarian or Augustan refoundation.
