Beschrijving keerzijde Dionysus standing facing, head turned to the left, holding a long thyrsus in his left hand and a cantharus in his right hand extended over a panther at his feet to the left, the animal looking back toward the deity. The composition reflects the standard Dionysiac type employed by numerous Phrygian civic mints during the Severan era. The ethnic legend ΑΚΜΟΝΕΩΝ is disposed around the figure in the field, identifying the issuing city of Acmonea.

Aanvullende informatie

Acmonea was a Phrygian city whose civic coinage under Severus Alexander reflects the relatively autonomous minting privileges extended to communities within the Apamean conventus — the judicial assize district through which Rome administered the region. These provincial bronzes were struck not by imperial authority but by local magistrates, whose names sometimes appear on the coins and represent the only surviving record of their tenure.

The reference VI#5586 places this within Voegtli's corpus of Acmonean issues, a series that remains incompletely studied compared to the more prolific neighbors in the conventus.
