| 背面描述 | Five-line Greek inscription distributed across the central field and enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a broad laurel wreath. The wreath, tied at the base, is rendered with carefully struck leaf pairs and provides an elegant frame for the dedicatory text. The legend reads ΚΛΑΥΔΙ / ΩΚΑΙΣΑ / ΡΙΣΕΒΑΣ / ΤΩ ΕΤΓ, honouring Claudius Caesar Augustus and recording the regnal year 3 (ΕΤΓ) of Herod of Chalcis. The composition follows the standard epigraphic reverse type employed by Herodian dynasts in imitation of broader Hellenistic and Roman provincial coinage conventions. |

Herod of Chalcis ruled the small Lebanese mountain kingdom as a client of Rome, his position secured largely through his close personal relationship with the emperor Claudius. The coin dates to the year Claudius granted him authority over the Jerusalem Temple and its treasury — a politically charged appointment that placed control of the high priesthood in Herodian hands for the first time since Herod the Great.
His reign lasted only until 48 AD, making issues from this early regal year among the scarcer products of the Chalcis mint.
