A circular Greek legend surrounds the portrait in the field, reading ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΗΡΩΔΗΣ ΦΙΛΟΚΛΑΥΔΙΟΣ, identifying the ruler as King Herod, Friend of Claudius.
