| Beschrijving keerzijde | Demeter standing left, her arms raised and extended, holding ears of corn in one hand and poppies in the other, emblematic of fertility and the city of Argos. The figure is rendered in the conventional standing divine type of Greek provincial coinage, robed in a long chiton or himation. The reverse legend ΑΡΓΕΙωΝ appears in the field, attributing the issue to the civic authority of Argos. The flan is irregular with a dark green patina obscuring some of the finer details of the type. |

Argos maintained active civic bronze coinage through much of the Antonine period, a prerogative granted selectively by Rome to cities with sufficient administrative standing. The city's claim to antiquity — and its mythology surrounding the Argive Heraion — gave local magistrates unusual latitude in choosing reverse types that looked inward toward Greek tradition rather than toward imperial flattery.
