Behind the figure, an eagle flies to the left with its head turned right, positioned above an altar around which a serpent is coiled. The composition reflects the syncretic religious iconography common in Bithynian civic coinage, combining solar and chthonic symbolism. The encircling Greek legend proclaims the twice-neocorate status of the city of Nicomedia. |
