| Descrizione del rovescio | The goddess Cybele, turreted and wearing a mural crown, is depicted seated to the right upon a throne, her extended arm resting upon a patera. She is flanked on either side by a recumbent lion, a canonical attribute of the Magna Mater in Anatolian and Greco-Roman iconography. The composition occupies the full field of the flan, with the ethnic legend disposed around the periphery. The reverse type reflects the prominent local cult of Cybele at Nicaea in Bithynia. |
