| 裏面の説明 | Demeter standing facing, head turned to the left, robed in chiton and himation, raising her right hand to hold a bundle of corn ears and extending her left hand to hold a long torch set vertically beside her. The goddess is depicted in a hieratic, frontal pose on a ground line, with the civic legend disposed around the periphery within a beaded border, reflecting the city's association with Demeter as a major cult deity. |

Hieropolis in Phrygia — not to be confused with the better-known Hierapolis near Pamukkale — was a minor civic mint operating under the Apamean conventus, the Roman administrative district centered on Apamea Kibotis. Its coinage under Elagabalus reflects the brief window between his proclamation by the Syrian legions in 218 and his murder in Rome four years later, a reign so politically chaotic that provincial mints often lagged behind official imperial titulature. VI#5618 is sparsely represented in major collections.
