The effigy displays flowing locks and a draped paludamentum at the shoulder, with the legend distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait is boldly struck in high relief, characteristic of Phrygo-Lydian civic bronze coinage of the Severan period. |

The scene depicts the mythological Rape of Persephone, a subject of particular religious significance at Hierapolis in Phrygia. The Greek legend encircles the design within a beaded border. |
