The serpent's coils entwine a stalk of grain and a poppy, emblematic of Alexandrian agricultural abundance and the cult of Serapis. A regnal year numeral appears in the field. The reverse composition is characteristic of Alexandrian provincial bronzes of the Antonine period, rendered in bold but somewhat worn relief. |
