| Reverse description | Asclepius, god of medicine, depicted standing facing with head turned to the left, his weight resting on a serpent-entwined staff (caduceus) set upon the ground and held in his right hand. The figure is rendered in the conventional Hellenistic iconographic tradition common to Pontic civic bronzes of the mid-third century AD. The Greek legend ΑΜΙϹΟΥ ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΑϹ appears in the field, asserting the autonomous status of the city of Amisus. The reverse surface exhibits significant wear and encrustation. |
