The encircling legend ΙΕΡΑϹ ΝΕΙΚΟΠΟΛΕΩϹ, meaning 'of sacred Nicopolis,' frames the divine figure within the field. The composition reflects the civic pride of Nicopolis and its long-standing veneration of Athena as a patronal deity. Considerable wear and bronze patination obscure fine surface detail, yet the principal iconographic elements remain identifiable. |
