Reverse description The celebrated lyric poet Anacreon, patron deity and cultural symbol of Teos, seated to the right upon a throne or stool, holding and playing a lyre. The figure is rendered in the tradition of provincial Greek civic types honoring the city's illustrious literary heritage. The reverse legend, disposed around the type in two lines or in the field, records the name of the local magistrate and the civic ethnic.
