Beschrijving voorzijde Draped bust of Faustina II facing right, her hair elaborately styled and swept back in the characteristic Antonine fashion, rendered in raised relief against a flat field. The empress is portrayed with a graceful, idealized effigy typical of provincial Greek coinage of the Antonine period. The legend ΦΑΥϹΤΕΙ ϹΕΒΑϹΤΗ runs around the periphery of the field, divided on either side of the bust. The entire design is contained within a dotted border (grenetis).

Aanvullende informatie

Pionia was a minor Mysian community whose civic coinage under the Adramyteum conventus is poorly documented and survives in small numbers. The magistrate name rendered as ΡΟΥΦΟΣ (Rufus) on this issue is a Latinized cognomen thoroughly absorbed into Greek provincial administrative use by the Antonine period — its appearance here places the coin within a narrow window of Aurelius's co-rule with Lucius Verus and the early sole reign, years dominated by the Parthian war and the catastrophic Antonine Plague spreading westward from returning legions.
