The Greek legend ΛΑΙΡΒΗΝΟϹ appears in the field, identifying the deity as the local syncretic god Apollo Lairbenos, a pre-eminent tutelary divinity of Hierapolis in Phrygia. The flan is irregular and shows a substantial chip, consistent with the hammered production technique of the period. |

The reverse type, combining Roman mythological imagery with a Greek civic legend, is characteristic of the honorific coinage issued by neocorate cities of Asia Minor under Elagabalus. |
