背面描述 Frontal view of a hexastyle temple, identified as the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (Artemision), depicted with six fluted columns raised on a stepped podium of three tiers and surmounted by a triangular pediment. A cult statue or figure is visible between the columns in the intercolumniation. Flanking the temple on either side is the sacred bee of Ephesus, the ancient civic emblem of the city, rendered in profile. The Greek legend is distributed around the periphery of the field.

附加信息

The title ΝΕΩΚΟΡΩΝ — "temple warden" — carried enormous political weight in the Greek East. Ephesus claimed this honor in connection with the imperial cult, a designation that required direct negotiation with Rome and carried significant civic prestige. Under Nero, the city's relationship with the emperor was still functional; his catastrophic reputation came largely posthumously and through a senatorial literary tradition hostile to his memory. Coins asserting neokorate status were civic propaganda aimed as much at rival cities like Smyrna and Pergamon as at Rome itself.
