The caduceus, symbol of Hermes and of commercial prosperity, is rendered in bold relief consistent with Cyzicene provincial coinage of the Severan and Gordian periods. The encircling Greek legend, distributed around the periphery, references the city's neocorate status. The composition is simple yet boldly executed, with the type serving as an emblem of the city's mercantile and religious prominence.
