| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, depicted three-quarter from the front. The imperial effigy displays military attire with paludamentum over the cuirass, rendered in the provincial style typical of Ephesian civic coinage of the mid-third century AD. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan. |

The Greek civic legend is disposed in the field around the figure, identifying the issuing city and the deity depicted. |
