Obverse description Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, seen from the front, with paludamentum visible at the truncation. The imperial effigy is rendered in the provincial style characteristic of the Ephesian mint. The Greek legend encircles the bust in the outer field, reading from upper left to right.

Reverse description Tetrastyle temple depicted in three-quarter perspective, with a triangular pediment surmounted by an acroterion, four columns on a stepped podium (krepidoma), and the xoanon of Artemis Ephesia standing frontally within the intercolumniation. The cult statue is shown in the characteristic mummy-like form with multiple breast ornaments. The ethnic legend ΕΦΕϹΙΩΝ appears in the lower exergual area beneath the temple steps.
