The coin exhibits a dark olive-green patina with areas of red-brown earthen deposits consistent with prolonged burial. |

The design reflects the strong local civic pride of Ilium in honoring its legendary Trojan ancestor as a god (ΘΕΟΣ). The Greek legend ΙΛΙΕΩΝ ΘΕΟΣ ΕΚΤΩΡ, meaning 'Hector, god of the Ilieans', appears in the lower field and exergue area, partly within a rectangular tablet.
