The effigy occupies the central field with no visible border or decorative surround, consistent with the irregular flan characteristic of hammered Bithynian bronzes. | Descripción del reverso | Draped bust of Hera facing right, her head surmounted by a polos or stephane crown, as befitting the principal civic deity of Nicaea. The goddess is depicted in the Hellenistic tradition, with carefully rendered drapery visible at the shoulder. Two monograms and a single letter appear in the field, serving as magistrate or mint-control marks. The surrounding legend, disposed around the periphery of the flan, reads ΕΠΙ ΑΝΘΥΠΑΤΟΥ ΘΩΡΙΟΥ ΦΛΑΚΚΟΥ and ΗΡΑ, identifying the proconsular authority under whom the coin was issued and the deity depicted. |
