Cyme, despite being one of the oldest Greek settlements on the Aeolian coast, remained a minor provincial backwater by the time Hadrian's reign consolidated Roman administrative structures across Asia Minor. The city's assignment to the Conventus of Smyrna rather than a conventus of its own reflects that diminished standing — Smyrna dominated the region's judicial and civic life so thoroughly that smaller Aeolian cities like Cyme operated largely in its shadow.

Bronze civic issues of this period from the Smyrna conventus are frequently underdocumented, and the III#1934 reference places this among a thinly catalogued group.
