Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Domitian facing left, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Alexandrian coinage. The imperial effigy is depicted with a wreath of laurel, consistent with the emperor's titulature as Augustus and Germanicus. The encircling Greek legend occupies the field around the portrait, identifying the emperor by his full titulature.

Additional information

Domitian's fourteenth regnal year, which this coin marks in its exergue, fell just before his assassination in September 96 AD — a murder organized within his own household, involving his wife Domitia. The Alexandrian mint continued striking his types through the full year with no apparent disruption, making coins of L ΙΔ relatively common by late Domitianic standards. The Senate's subsequent damnatio memoriae had no practical effect on Egyptian provincial issues already in circulation.
