Tralles, a prosperous city in the Maeander valley, was rebuilding aggressively in 2 BC after a catastrophic earthquake leveled much of it in 26 BC — Augustus had personally funded the reconstruction, and the city briefly renamed itself Caesareia in gratitude. This coin belongs to that charged moment of civic debt, struck the same year the Roman senate awarded Augustus the title Pater Patriae.
The magistrate designation ΕΙΒΙΑ remains only partially resolved in the literature on Trallian civic coinage.
